Fellow Brian Highsmith (’17) was quoted in a ProPublica story about consumer abuses in the private, for-profit diversion industry utilized by many criminal courts (“Diversion Programs Say They Offer a Path Away From Court, but Critics Say the Tolls Are Hefty,” Nov. 13). “While these arrangements are pitched as saving money, almost inevitably they have the effect of increasing the costs on vulnerable families,” Brian said. “They also put unaccountable corporations in charge of administering key functions of our legal system.”
