Toby Merrill (‘12), Clinical Instructor/Lecturer and Director of Harvard Law Legal Services Center’s Project on Predatory Student Lending, was quoted by Forbes following a federal judge’s ordering Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to cancel student loans for the 7,200 student borrowers in Massachusetts who attended the now-defunct Corinthian Colleges (“Federal Judge Orders DeVos To Cancel Student Loans For Some Students,” June 27). Having filed a lawsuit similar to the Massachusetts Attorney General, Toby affirmed, “This ruling is a clear and powerful statement of the rights of student borrowers, and a resounding rejection of the Department of Education’s ongoing and across-the-board refusal to recognize these rights and cancel fraudulent student loans.”
