Corene Kendrick Secures Victory with $1.1 Million Judgment against the State of Arizona for Its Treatment of People in Prisons

Corene Kendrick (’03), Deputy Director of the ACLU National Prison Project, was quoted on Arizona Republic’s azcentral.com celebrating a win in a class action lawsuit after United States District Judge Roslyn Silver found the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry in civil contempt and fined them $1.1 million for failing to meet court-imposed standards for the treatment of people in prisons (“State Held in Contempt, Fined $1.1m for Not Meeting Judge's Orders on Prisoner Care,” Feb. 25). “We hope that ADC will stop wasting Arizona taxpayer money fighting the court ordering it to live up to its promises, and instead will finally do its duty and provide the people in its custody the basic health care and conditions to which they are entitled.”
