Amy Laura Cahn (’11), Visiting Professor and Director of the Environmental Justice Clinic at Vermont Law School, coauthored an article for Law360 discussing the impact of the Trump EPA’s deregulation policy and urging the Biden administration and Congress to bolster EPA enforcement of environmental and civil rights laws and consult with people of color, Indigenous peoples and low-income communities to ensure effective action on environmental justice (“Investigate Trump Enviro Rollback's Harm To Communities,” Oct. 26). “We cannot fulfill the long-overdue promise of environmental justice without strong, enforceable protections. The EPA’s decision to succumb to corporate pressure instead of protecting those most at risk cannot happen again. We need systemic changes to ensure that all federal agencies safeguard environmental justice communities — and that communities have tools to protect themselves.”
